Un-insurable in Delaware?

Posted by admin in Life Insurance

Delaware may be ranked high in the healthiest of states by the United Health Foundation of 2009, but it does have citizens who are medically uninsurable. Delaware began offering federally established high-risk pool programs, of a temporary nature, in 2010. These programs offer medical coverage to help people with a pre-established history of medical problems to obtain insurance coverage.

Short term health insurance policies in Delaware are offered with Network and Non-Network coverage that are subject to deductibles and co-insurance payments 50 percent of costs. Coverage can be quoted and obtained usually by the next business day, providing you are approved, which is generally a benefit over the underwritten insurances that can take up to 6 weeks before becoming effective.

It is not the intention of the providers for temporary insurance to take away from or replace long term insurance. Providers that offer this type of insurance are giving you a way to effectively protect yourself while you wait for your group insurance policy to begin. However, on the other hand, you are likely to be faced with strict or limiting benefits as the cost for the lower premiums.

All jokes aside, temporary health insurance quotes mean different things to different people, so you will need to read your intended policy carefully to make sure you understand exactly what you are quoted coverage is for. Temporary insurance is meant to look after unfortunate medical events, but rarely covers you for preventative visits to medical professionals. Take the time to sit with your agent and have them explain the bits that you do not understand, and let them know you do not want unfortunate surprises when you need their help the most. Chances are, the agent will offer more suggestions that better suit your needs, and you will both feel comfortable in the end.
