Employment growth in automotive sector

The American auto industry is continuing its slow and steady recovery, and along with international manufacturers, is hiring a significant number of U.S. workers. Volkswagen has opened a plant in Tennessee which will need 2,000 workers and Honda is in the process of hiring 1,000 workers in Indiana, according to the Associated Press.In addition to foreign companies, General Motors is poised to hire 2,500 workers to help build the Chevy Volt. GM will be investing $69 million in the Detroit-Hamtramck factory and adding two shifts of workers to help make the Volt, as well as the Chevy Malibu and Impala.Surprising industry growthThis new hiring spree shows the industry is growing much faster than the rest of the economy, which has been slow to recover.

Church metal theft hits all-time high

Chelmsford Diocese has topped the league for the worst place in the UK for theft of lead and other valuable metals from churches.

According to Ecclesiastical, churches across the diocese made over 90 claims with the insurer in 2011, while the dioceses of Lincoln and Lichfield took joint second place with over 80 claims each.

Overall, 2011 has become the worst year on record for theft of metal from churches at 2,500, total claims surpassed Ecclesiasticals previous 2008 high of 2,400.

The figures come as a new survey by the charity insurer suggests overwhelming support from the public for tougher laws on metal theft.

Keep flames, candles, and heat sources away from combustibles, like decorations and holiday trees.

Make sure candles are snuffed out before leaving a room.

Candles should be in a stable base, and far out of reach of children or pets.If someone is a burned, run burn under cold water immediately, then assess the extent of the burn.

Water damage dampens profits

Water damage is costing UK commercial property owners millions, according to recent research from Cadogan Keelan Westall.

The property insurance specialist can reveal that nearly 50% of claims made on commercial buildings and their contents result from escape of water, at an estimated cost to property owners £185 million a year.

In fact, commercial non-weather-related escape of water claims cost £0.5 million a day in 2010, industry figures show, with the average commercial water damage claim for 2011 coming in at just over £2,900.

Common causes include burst pipes, roof leaks, frozen pipes and blocked drains, with empty commercial properties understandably more vulnerable than occupied ones.

Carpooling can save Americans time, fuel costs

As gas prices continue to rise and roads become more congested, more Americans are leaving their individual vehicles at home and choosing to carpool to work.

The toll traffic is taking on Americans

According to the Texas Transportation Institute, Americans spent an average of 34 hours stuck in traffic in 2009, burning through about $808 of fuel. Nationally, traffic congestion cost Americans a whopping $87 billion that year, a figure that could be significantly reduced if more people partner up with friends or coworkers during their daily commute.
