InsureandGo left me high and dry over holiday theft claim

Posted by Emma OFarrell in Insurance Help

I bought an annual travel policy with InsureandGo. During the year, I travelled to São Paulo, Brazil, where my possessions were taken from my hotel room. I claimed £2,800 and have fully co-operated with the insurer’s request for information. There were language issues in Brazil. The police wouldn’t help and I&G agreed to accept a report from the hotel instead. However, when I produced this they turned it down. Some 11 months on, I&G has now refused my claim completely.

Your experience highlights the difficulty of providing evidence of theft on holiday. The hotel staff’s English was insufficient to explain the situation to InsureandGo’s satisfaction. Y

Medicaid Coercion—In your heart you know the states are right: Healthcare fact of the week

Posted by Emma OFarrell in Insurance Help

Michael Greve is a first-rate constitutional scholar, so I take on his argument that “the states will lose on Medicaid” with some trepidation. I’m no lawyer, so I’m in no position to quarrel with his legal argument. But I do know a thing or two about the Medicaid program and my analysis of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) leads to a very different conclusion. In my simple man-on-the-street view, states face a relatively simple (albeit stark) choice when it comes to Medicaid. They can either accept the new Medicaid spending required under the ACA or they can reject the “deal” offered by Congress, in which case they must forego all federal funding of Medicaid. This includ

Make It Safely Past Black Ice

Posted by Emma OFarrell in Insurance Help

Find out how black ice forms and how to recognize it for a safer drive.

Call it the invisible menace. Black ice hides in shadowy seclusion, in the worst travel conditions, waiting to do damage to motorists.

“The term, ‘black ice,’ is a misnomer,” says Dennis Madden, CEO of the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association. “It’s actually just a patch of smooth, clear ice. Because it’s clear, all you see is the roadway below. In fact, the only real difference between the appearance of dry roadway and black ice is a glaze you can discern when the light is just right. Like a reflec

You Can Still Get Great Rates as a High Risk Driver

Posted by admin in Insurance Help

If you’re a high risk driver, you’ve probably been having trouble trying to find insurance that is affordable. This is very common for high risk drivers, but there is a solution for getting the rates that you want. By requesting online high risk insurance quotes, you will come across much better rates. It’s also common for you to get charged higher rates simply because you don’t know how to look for cheaper ones.

While there are a lot of companies who won’t accept high risk drivers at a low rate, there are still a few companies out there that don’t only focus their insurance around non risky drivers. If this was Read full post…

First Direct travel insurance policy starts and ends in UK

Posted by Emma OFarrell in Insurance Help

We have travel insurance through our bank, First Direct, that seemed to be adequate. But in September we relocated to a new life in France. So I am assuming this policy with First Direct will be invalidated due to living abroad.

Is it possible to get a UK-based travel insurance policy but registered to a French address? And in the unlikely event of evacuation being required, do we get returned to France? If this is not possible, then maybe we will have to go the French route or risk travelling without it.

We do not intend to travel much outside of Europe in the very near future.

The travel insurance that comes from First Direct is, in fact, provided by Aviva.

10 Safety Lessons Every Kid Should Learn

Posted by Emma OFarrell in Insurance Help

Go back to basics to help your kids protect themselves.

Boiling child safety down to 10 steadfast rules might seem impossible—and for parents, it is. But kids need to hear clear safety basics from Mom and Dad. These simple, easy-to-remember rules give you a way to start the conversation.

  1. Don’t talk to strangers. Kids can’t control who approaches them, but they should know not to engage in conversation (or activities) with someone they don’t know.

  2. Yell and tell. If a stranger does approach your child and attempt to touch or follow him or her, your child should yell (“That’s not my dad!” “Stranger!” “Help!”) and tell someone they trust what happened. Some experts advise ch
